Subject and verb agreement
In preparing the English sentence, we know what is referred to as the "Subject-Verb Agreement" to create alignment between the subject and the verb used.  Because in the English language the term single object (singular) and plural object (plural) and verb (verb) that follow should also adjust subjectnya. It is therefore necessary subject verb agreement

Subject verb agreement refers to the fact that the subject and verb in a sentence must agree in number. In other words, they both must be singular or they both must be plural. You can’t have a singular subject with a plural verb or vice versa. The tricky part is in knowing the singular and plural forms of subjects and verbs.

In a sentence, the verb form must match the subject. If the subject and verb do not match, then the sentence is to be one. Consider the following example:

In the first example , 'are' incompatible with Tomy subject as 'are' can only be used against a second person (you) or the third person plural.
In the second example, 'live' can not be used because the third person singular in the simple present tense should be affixes (-s) into lives.

1.       Singular subject – singular verb
The definition of the subject is singular subject pronoun he, she , and it , or nouns that can be replaced with he, she , or it ;
While that is a singular verbs are verb1 + es / s , is / was , and verb phrases such as : is / was + verb-ing/verb3 , has + verb3 , has been verb - ing and has been verb3 .

2.       Plural subject – plural verb
The definition of the subject is plural subject pronouns such as I , we , you , they , and all plural nouns . While that is a plural verbs are verbs and verb phrases in addition to the above singular verbs .
Example

2.       Gerund is a verb ending in-ing that functions as a noun.
Gerunds have the same shape with Participles, they both end in-ing, but different functions. For Participles we will discuss separately.
Below will discuss the function of the Gerund. The thing to remember is regarded as Singular gerunds and pronouns are "it". Gerund functioning as the subject of the sentence is always followed by a single verb.
Example :
·         Planting trees is necessary to decrease the level of pollutants in the air

1.       With most pharases of quantity, the verb agrees with the noun in the phrase
Note : when the quantity is singular such as ‘one of, ‘ each of’,’every one of’ the verbs is singular but noun of that phrase must be plural
One of
Each of                         + plural noun = singular verb
Every one of
Example:

2.       Some of , a lot of
In most expressions of quantity, the verb is determined by the noun ( or pronoun) that follows of
Some of +  singular noun = singular verb
Some of + plural noun = plural verb
Singular verb

Plural verb

3.       A number of/the number of
A number of plural noun followed by a plural verb and, while the number of followed by a plural noun and a singular verb
A number of + nounplural + verbplural

Nouns are always a ' plural '
